Hit Every Fairway You See
I’m going to explain to you how to be the envy of all your buddies. Playing from the fairway is the start of a great hole. Your chances of making par or better, increase dramatically when you play golf from the short grass. The consequences of playing from the rough or woods include but are not limited to: punch outs, chip outs, tree deflections, sprained a rough wrist and throwing a club into the lake.
Hitting the fairway starts from the moment you lay eyes on the hole. So Here are 4 steps to help you conquer every fairway during your round.
- Don’t avoid looking at the trouble, a lot of golfers think that if they avoid looking at the trouble then they won’t hit the ball there. You must overcome the fear of hitting the ball into trouble. So, what if you hit the ball into the water or out of bounds. It’s just a ball in a tough game to be really good at. Next time you step on the tee of a challenging hole, stare at the trouble, whatever it may be and tell yourself “who cares if I hit the ball in there.”
- Make a plan and Pick a Target, now that you overcame your anxiety you need a game plan. You would never set out on a new drive without having directions, so why start a golf hole without plans. If the trouble is on the right pick a target on the left, if the trouble is on the left, pick a target on the right. Trouble down both sides? Put your big boy/girl pants on and pick a target down the center. The smaller the target the better, it will naturally make you a little more focused.
- Eliminate one side of the course, If you know where your miss is, you can better plan and pick a target. Even if you hit a banana slice all the time, play it! You know the ball is going to the right, so aim left and hit the banana slice into the fairway, then hit the banana slice into the green. Sometimes we as golfers get so caught up in hitting the perfect shape shot. We want to make the perfect swing, however, golf is more like a signature, no two signatures are alike and virtually impossible for two people to the same signature. Simply play your game.
- Swing Like You Mean It, don’t swing like you are scared or nervous. Make a swing at the ball like you actually believe you are going to hit the fairway, strong and with intention. Right before you make your swing, turn your head, take one last look at your target and back to the ball, swing your swing.
The next time you go out to play a round of golf try these for steps to hitting every fairway. This steps might seem like wishful thinking but, I guarantee you that each one of these steps is in every Pro player’s mind during a round. It should be a mortal sin for any golfer to step onto a tee box without a plan in mind. The faster you commit these 4 steps, the faster you will begin to shoot lower scores.
